Relaunching Pontypool Market Town – Artisan at The Boar Field

The relaunch for Pontypool’s historic market town premieres with ‘Artisan At The Boar Field’, a free all-day event including a vibrant and exciting range of stalls from local traders.

In 1846, a large open space in the centre of Pontypool named The Blue Boar Field was chosen as the location for a weekly market of local produce. The market had two sections, a butter market and a meat market, with additional room for general goods. The field itself was used for a vegetable market and entertainment, but the growing demand for space eventually led to the design of the Pontypool Indoor Market which opened in 1894 and continues trading today.

On February 12th, The Blue Boar Field will once again play host to a large selection of high-quality food, drink and handmade gifts to encourage visitors and locals back into the Welsh town. To encourage guests to explore the town, they will be provided with a map showing the town’s historic tourist spots such as the stunning People’s Park, Indoor Market, St Matthew’s church and Dry Ski slope, and other locations of interest.

The Relaunch is being organised by Torfaen County Borough Council in partnership with Friends of Pontypool Town, and is set to encourage the local community back into the town centre. The project will appeal to all members of the community through new, exciting stalls and retailers including fresh local produce, a 3D printing service, quality handmade items and delicious food and drink.

Pontypool Market takes place every second Saturday of the month.
